Canvases as co-facilitator
A participant of our last Liberating Structures immersion workshop really liked the ecosystem-metaphor we used as a holding space for insights and asked me for hints designing something similar.
Visual organizers or canvases are a cornerstone of my practice as a facilitator of group processes.
As a prototype for the first U.lab a few years a go, I explored the state of the visual practice to advance group processes in a series of workshops with more than 50 change agents, process guides and facilitators.
I summarized that exploration it in a little Prezi & revisited today. I think a lot of it is still valid and can be easily adapted to the virtual practice as well:
How this summary came together
In the workshop at Collaborative Sandbox we had a look at the most unsatisfactory situations in groupwork and how visual guidance might help to change these.
In the two workshops with process guides and facilitators at the IAF EMENA conference and during Facilitation Week Berlin, we explored what becomes possible if one invites canvases in as your co-facilitator.
I dedicated the blog Canvases to Collaborate to my growing collection of visual group organizers. I am not updating that blog for the time being - but it might still inspire or inform a re-use of a canvas - curious what works in your team!
